Care & FAQ's

CANDLES ARE DANGEROUS...

Especially if misused & not properly handled!

But they're also made to enjoy & can be perfectly safe when used with caution and care. Please read and pay attention to instructions below & the warning label that can be found on the bottom of your candle. This will prevent fire and injury to you and the ones you love.

CANDLE CARE

  • Always trim the wick ¼ inch each time before burning.
  • When you light your candle for the first time allow the candle to create an even pool around the diameter of your candle. It's best to burn your candle 2 to 4 hours in order to prevent a memory ring / tunneling. However do not burn over 4 hours at a time.
  • Keep out of reach from Children and Pets.
  • Never leave a lit candle unattended and only burn on a fire resistance surface.
  • Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings and debris.
  • Keep away from drafts, vents and fans.
  • Never extinguish candles with water, and be sure that the candle is completely extinguished before leaving the room.
  • Never touch or move a burning candle, this can cause injury or fire.
  • WHEN TO LET HER GO: Do not burn a candle all the way down, for safety discontinue use when wax ½ an inch left in the container.
  • HOW TO TELL IF YOUR DOING IT RIGHT: She’s not flickering, the wick is upright, no extra smoking or sooting (minimal sooting is inevitable, but proper candle care with keep it that way). If any of this IS happening, & the flame is uncontrollable, the candle is not burning properly. Extinguish it immediately, let it cool, go through the check points listed & try again.
  • STORE CANDLES: In a cool, dark, DRY space. If it comes with a lid, use it when you aren’t burning HER to protect from dust. Avoid direct sunlight & harsh light to keep the wax solid!

***Optional :: Once candle has burned down & only 1/2' remains, you can remove the remaining wax and use as wax melt in a wax warmer SEE HOW TO REMOVE WAX HERE.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. WHY DOES MY CANDLE LOOK WET THROUGH THE JAR?

Changes in temperature may cause "wet spots" on candles. This is a term used to describe a spot on a candle jar that looks as if water has seeped in between the wax and the jar. This is a natural occurrence that can happen when candles go through changes in temperature (ie: going from an air-conditioned home, car to a hot humid mailbox or vice versa, shipping from warm climate to cold climate, etc.). These "wet spots" do not affect the way your candles burn or smell in any way.

2. HOW DO I CARE FOR MY CANDLES?

Like most products, candles also need a little TLC (tender love & care) to ensure optimal burn time and long lasting candle life! Click below for tips on how to get the most out of each of your candle investments!

3. WHY IS MY CANDLE TUNNELING?

Tunneling  is wax build up on the edges of the candle. When this happens, it is likely that the candle has not been burning long enough for the melted wax pool  to reach the edge. See Candle Care Tips here.

4. WHY DOESN'T MY CANDLE HAVE A STRONG SCENT?

Fragrance is subjective, because of that some fragrances are stronger than others.  Drafts can also severely lessen HER scent throw (smell when lit). When lit, try keeping doors & windows closed & burn in desired space for a little while to maximize the scent throw. Try to move the candle to another location.

***Remember single wick candles are for smaller rooms, double wick candles are for medium sized rooms, and triple wick candles are for larger rooms.

5. WHY IS BLACK SMOKE (SOOT) COMING FROM MY CANDLE?

Soot is a natural occurrence for any candle. If your candle has a recurrence of excessive soot, it can be the result of carbon build-up on the wicks, not trimming the wicks of the candle, over-burning the candle, or burning the candle in an area with a draft present.

Extinguish the candle and allow it to cool. Trim the wick to 1/8’’, move the candle to another location, and do not burn for more than four (4) hours at a time. See Candle Care.

6. WHY WON'T MY WICK STAY LIT?

Components of a candle can occasionally clog the wick. Extinguish the flame, and let the candle to cool. Trim the wick, then twist the wick with your fingers to loosen the fibers in the wick. This should allow the fragrance and wax to absorb more freely through the wick.

7. HOW DO I SHIP PACKAGES BACK FOR REFILLS?

If you've purchased a candle refill, you'll receive an email with shipping instructions on where to send them and recommendations for the best shipping. All vessels should be wrapped in bubble wrap, old newspaper, etc. and packed tightly. Use filler bubble wrap or air pillows to protect them from breaking or being crushed. Candles are heavy and shipping by the pound it can be extremely expensive. We recommend USPS priority mail flat rate boxes because the boxes are free and they ship using flat rates.

8. ARE HER CANDLES NATURAL, VEGAN & CRUELTY FREE?

ABSOLUTELY!  Our candles are made of coconut apricot wax + natural lead-free cotton wicks + natural fragrance & essential oils. That makes them 100% vegan friendly and cruelty free. They do not contain any animal products, nor have they been tested on animals.

9. HOW DO I CLEAN WAX SPILL FROM CARPET?

Lay a piece of paper towel over the spill, take a hot iron and iron the paper towel. This will allow the wax to melt and adhere to the paper towel. Any remaining wax can be cleaned up with soap and water.
